Schools everywhere lend structure to their communities by providing a school calendar. From this calendar, school administrators, athletic program directors, teachers, students, and parents develop their many and diverse plans. Typically, there is a beginning time and ending time. Dates given to these beginning and ending times will depend upon the hemisphere, country, and local community where the school is domiciled. In between the beginning and ending times are all of the various weekends, cultural events, vacations, and school activities where classroom activities may not occur because there are no classes scheduled. Understandably, families and their needs and schedules are subjected to the school's calendar.
Based upon the philosophy and the technical capabilities offered by International Christian Academy Online, your family is now placed in command of your "family school calendar." At the time of your enrollment, you inform us of the date when your family intends to start school. Academy staff members then inform the computer application of this fact, and a school calendar is calculated for your family based on 180 days of class time. When your student(s) receive their CD-ROM curriculum materials you are able to enter and adjust your calendar to suit your family’s weekends, cultural events, and any school activities you deem necessary. Keep in mind that there is nothing supernatural about 180 days. It simply helps you provide structure for yourself as teacher and to your students. You may find that one of your student(s) may complete his/her course of study earlier, while another of your student(s) may need to work beyond this time frame. Remember, each child is unique.
Occasionally, events may be such that a family trip or occasion pops up unexpectedly. Simply enter the “parent application” and make the appropriate calendar change, and you’re on your way.
The importance of "Your Family Calendar"
Once a teacher is aware of the duration and events of the school calendar he/she is able to begin planning for the classroom instruction and events of the school year. A teacher will map out topics and units of study. Upon the selection of the units of study, a teacher will begin to break down these blocks of units into bite-sized lessons. The duration and the objectives of the lessons are decided, along with methods of lesson delivery (instruction), and proper assessments to measure student progress.
“Your family calendar” is important, because the ICAOnline application program needs it in order to develop for you and your student the lesson plans for the entire year. Each of your students’ courses will be broken down to the lessons based upon the start date and schedule that you have devised. After this takes place, you will able to visualize onscreen the lessons and their content along with the dates that they are to be completed. What takes teachers hours to develop, our application performs in seconds. You then have a wonderful tool available to use with the planning, instruction, and management of your student’s school days. Now, you’re in control, you know where you are going, and you have a plan of action to get there.
